Character Information
Character Name: Suzaku Kururugi

Series: Code Geass

Gender: Male

Age: 18

Sexuality: Straight sorry Gino

Species: Human

Appearance:Personality:</b>

Suzaku is a bit of an idealist who believes that, though hard work and sacrifice, he can peacefully change the world. He’s very much the hero type, who hates to see suffering and wants to protect the innocent. However, unlike most characters who can be described that way, Suzaku tends to think in terms of what would be best for the world in the long run, or what in the end will make the most people happy. He wants to believe there is justice and good in the world, and wants to be able to bring it out though his actions. His faith in justice is one of the reasons he was able to work for Britannia; he wanted to protect people and defend what was right, and he believed that by working from the inside he could achieve that.

Generally Suzaku seems to be a kind-hearted, slightly awkward teenager, very noble and eager to please. He’s enjoys physical activities more then schoolwork, though he isn’t dumb. He’s the type that can accomplish things though sheer determination when he needs to, like when he first learned to fly the Lancelot – he was able to read the instructions and figure out how to apply them in just a few hours, because he knew he was needed. Though he gets a lot of crap for being Japanese, he’s still able to get along with people fairly easily due to his good nature. When he loves someone, he has a tendency to be protective of them.

However, his good nature and noble tendencies hide one very important fact – Suzaku is a messed-up kid. He has a lot of issues that provide justification for his actions, goals, and view of the world. Suzaku feels extremely guilty for killing his father, even though he was only a boy at the time, and especially because he was never punished for it. He wouldn’t really mind dying, and there’s a large part of him that feels like he deserves death. His view of the world is shaky, because while he does believe that the world can be a better place, he has been exposed to so much evidence that contradicts that that sometimes he isn’t sure what to do, or how to think or behave. He has also shown himself to be capable of hatred and vengeance, and is sometimes impulsive enough to give into them despite his better judgment, though only rarely. However, his willingness to sacrifice himself for a greater purpose is one of the most important and memorable traits about him, and the reason why, in the end, he was willing to change his methods and choose to help Lelouch and become Zero.

Abilities:

Suzaku’s skills aren’t superhuman, but he is very athletic. He’s very quick and a good fighter, his spin kick being particularly notable. Earlier in the series, Lelouch used his Geass to order Suzaku to ‘live on’, forcing him to do whatever was necessary to keep himself alive. However, like Euphie, this Geass stops working on his arrival to Manhattan.

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider

History:

Suzaku was born in Japan, the son of Prime Minister Kururugi, in a world that was largely controlled by three nations – Britannia, The Chinese Federation, and the European Union. When Suzaku was young, a Britannian prince named Lelouch and his little sister Nunnally stayed in Japan with him and his father as political hostages. Though the boys didn’t get along at first, the three soon became good friends.

Britannia’s was interested in gaining control of a material extremely important to their modern technology called Sakuradite that was most commonly found in Japan. When Suzaku was seven, Britannia invaded Japan. Despite their best efforts to resist, Japan was outmatched in both numbers and technology, and Suzaku and Lelouch were separated in the chaos.

But the Prime Minister was determined, and refused to give in to Brittania. Suzaku was disturbed by the destruction the war was causing and, being a child, didn’t want to see any more happen. One night, he tried to convince his father to change his mind and, in the heat of the argument, Suzaku killed him. The event was immediately covered up, and the officials claimed it was a suicide. Japan then surrendered to Britannia, and the people lost their rights, privileges, and even their name. Japan became Area 11, and its people became Elevens.

Flash-forward ten years – Suzaku joins the Britannian Army in hopes of either working his way up and changing Britannia from within, or dying on the front lines. During an incident in the Shinjuku ghetto, Suzaku is reunited with Lelouch. Due to a misunderstanding, the commander orders Suzaku to kill Lelouch and, when Suzaku refuses, he is shot for not following orders. However, his life his saved by a pocket watch that belonged to his father. He is treated by a Britannian Scientist named Lloyd. In a twist of fate, his status as an Honorary Britannian gives him the opportunity to test an experimental Knightmare Frame called the Lancelot. With this weapon, he is able to almost single-handedly control the situation in Shinjuku, which had developed from a terrorist threat into a full-scale battle.

Unfortunately, a Britannian prince was killed at the end of that battle. The Britannian government had no idea who was actually responsible – they needed a scapegoat. Suzaku, being only an honorary Britannian, was an obvious choice. They arrested him on false charges and were fully prepared to execute him, but his life was saved once again. This time it was Zero, the terrorist responsible for the Shinjuku incident, interrupting the ride to Suzaku’s trial to confess that he was, in fact, the real killer. Zero used a fake weapon to negotiate Suzaku’s release, and tried to convince Suzaku to join his organization, The Black Knights. Though Suzaku was grateful on some level, he refused, believing that Zero’s methods were flawed because his actions did not justify the ends he hoped to achieve. He returned to the Britannian officials, but thanks to Zero’s confession, they could no longer accuse him of the prince’s murder.

So from that point on, Suzaku continued to pilot the Lancelot, becoming an important asset to the Britannia’s fight against Zero. He also began attending Ashford Academy, where he was again reunited with Lelouch and Nunnally. It was during this time that he met Princess Euphemia li Britannia. The two become very close, and Euphemia eventually decides to make Suzaku her personal knight, earning him a promotion to Major.

During an incident on Shikane Island, Suzaku is ordered to kill Zero in a way that forces him to also die in the process. Lelouch refused to allow this to happen, and was forced to use his geass on Suzaku to order him to ‘Live on’.

Soon afterwords, Euphemia decides to establish the Special Administrative Zone of Japan, and Suzaku was more then happy to help. However, the zone was never established, and the attempted ended with Euphemia dead and her good name sullied. Suzaku is furious, and when V.V. explains how Zero’s geass works and what really happened, he vows to find and kill Zero. The first season ends with Suzaku holding Lelouch at gunpoint, but it is revealed afterwards that he ended up not killing Lelouch. Instead he brought his former friend to the Emperor alive, using his capture to gain a promotion into the Emperor’s Knights of the Round. As the Knight of Seven, Suzaku is ordered to keep an eye on Lelouch, whose memories were wiped and replaced by the Emperor. When Zero returns, he at first finds nothing connecting the reappearance to Lelouch. It’s when Zero demands exile that Suzaku realizes that he’s been fooled – only someone who knew him very well would assume he wouldn’t order a massacre. He’s soon able to confirm this, but hesitates to report to the Emperor, because Nunnally’s position as the new Viceroy of Japan means that she could easily be taken hostage, and Suzaku wants to protect her. Lelouch is aware of this, and after the Emperor’s appearance at the creation of the United Federation of Nations, Lelouch asks Suzaku to protect Nunally. Suzaku agrees on the condition that Lelouch meets him privately. However, the meeting goes sour – Prince Schneizel appears unexpectedly and arrests Lelouch, making it look like Suzaku went back on his word.

In the battle that follows, Suzaku is sent out with the Lancelot, now equipped with a super-powerful bomb call F.L.E.Y.A. The Lancelot is outmatched by the fighters under Lelouch’s command and Suzaku is ready to give up and accept death. But the geass that Lelouch used on him forces him to live. He launches F.L.E.Y.A, destroying the capital building that he believe Nunally was inside.

After this incident, Suzaku decides to give up his former philosophy and try to achieve his ends no matter what the means. He makes a deal with Schneizel – he would kill the emperor in exchange for being given the position of Knight of One. His attempt fails, and he ends up following Lelouch into the Sword of Akasha to try again. The Emperor dies and Suzaku reconciles with Lelouch. Now that both have similar goals, Suzaku agrees to help Lelouch become Emperor and carry out the Zero Requiem.

When Suzaku arrives in Manhattan, they have reached the final stage of this plan – Suzaku, as the new Zero, is to arrive just in time to save the prisoners from Emperor Lelouch, defeating what the world now viewed as it’s most hated enemy as ushering in an era of peace. However, instead of reaching his destination, Suzaku finds himself running straight into the ruined city.
